Why lips need a separate formula
Lip skin is thinner, better supplied with blood and has a colour of its own that interacts with the pigment. What works beautifully on brows can behave completely differently on lips, which is why Gentle Drop Lips is a separate line and not the same pigment under a different label.
A watercolour finish instead of matte lipstick
The formula has a minimised amount of white, and some of the colours contain no white at all. That is why lips come out satin and translucent, not covered with a flat patch of colour.
You build saturation in layers. You can stop at a delicate lip blush or keep adding colour up to a strong saturation, staying in control of how much is already there.
Subtle pixel. The edges stay soft, so it is easier to work on a contour that is meant to look like the natural shape of the lips.
What hybrid pigments are
A hybrid combines organic and mineral colourants in one mixture. The organic ones are responsible for the saturation of the healed colour, the mineral ones for its calm, even fading over time. On lips this matters in particular, because the natural undertone of the lips tones down part of the work anyway.
From the point of view of work at the chair, particle size also counts. In Gentle Drop Lips it is fine enough that the pigment does not sit as a heavy, hanging layer, but as a pliable cloud that leaves a fresh colour on the lips. The durability of the shade comes among others from the colourant CI 16035:1, an ingredient of a true hybrid formula and not of the mineral part alone.
The formula contains no violet, green or black colourants. Those are the ones that most often pull the healed colour towards bluish and grey tones, so their absence matters especially with a cool lip undertone and with deeper skin tones.

Why the result can be planned
Gentle Drop Lips is an original OVA formula, developed by Magdalena Mazurek on the basis of twenty years of work on lips. The lip is the most capricious area in pigmentation, so the formula was built around one question: how to make sure there is no surprise after healing.
Hence the emphasis on predictability. When you know your own blend and you know the undertone of the skin, you can choose the colour and the depth more accurately instead of hoping it turns out well. Fewer touch ups, a calmer conversation with the client and work you can repeat on the next person.
You can read more about how OVA formulas are created on the about the brand page.
Frequently asked questions
Will they work for the lip blush technique?
Yes, this is exactly the work the line was built for. The watercolour finish and the option to stop at a low saturation are the basis of this technique.
How does the lip undertone change the colour?
It always tones it down, which is why on lips artists reach more often for blends with higher saturation than on brows. A cool, bluish undertone calls for a different choice than warm, pink lips.
Can I mix the colours with each other?
Yes, and on lips it is done often. Just keep in mind that when you mix two blends, you also mix the rate at which they metabolise.
And for brows?
For brows we have a separate version, Gentle Drop Brow. If you are looking for a mineral line, see Mineral Drop.
You will find more about the differences between mineral, hybrid and organic pigments in mineral or hybrid pigments.
