Mineral pigments for permanent makeup, what that actually means
Mineral means inorganic. The colourant is based on compounds such as iron oxides, and its particles are larger and heavier than in organic pigments. That is one difference, but almost everything that happens in the skin over the next two years follows from it.
A larger particle moves more slowly and is removed more slowly by the body. The colour fades evenly, the edges of your work stay soft, and after a year the result is a paler version of what it was, not a different colour.
No white, no green, no carbon
This is not a claim from a label, it is a decision made at the formulation stage. Those three ingredients stay in the skin longer than the rest of the mixture, so over time they start to dominate. That is where brows fading to grey or to a cool blue come from.
Mineral Drop simply does not contain them. There are no strong binders either. The pigment metabolises predictably and lightens gently instead of drifting into cold tones.

When to reach for mineral pigments
Thin, sensitive or vascular skin. Gentler work and fewer surprises during healing.
A client who will not come back soon for a touch up. If the colour has to manage on its own for two years, predictability matters more than a strong result on day one.
Natural, soft brows. Where they are meant to look like brows, not like makeup.
A client who lost trust after a previous pigmentation. You know which way the colour will go.
The other side of the same coin: saturation at the start is lower than with organic pigments. For very dark, heavily saturated results you have to work more precisely and sometimes plan a touch up.
Compliance and documents
The line meets the requirements of entry 75 of Annex XVII to the REACH Regulation, which covers mixtures intended for tattooing and permanent make up. We send the safety data sheet on request, just write to us.
You will find more about reading labels and which documents are worth having in the studio in REACH in permanent makeup.
How we know how this colour will fade
Mineral Drop formulas were created at OVA, they were not bought in and repackaged. They were developed by Magdalena Mazurek and they draw on two decades of work at the chair and of watching what the result looks like after one year, after two and after four.
That translates into one practical thing: predictability. When you know your own mixture and you know the skin, you can say which way the shade will go and how deep you need to work so that the healed result matches the plan. Less guessing, less repigmenting, fewer corrections at your own cost.
Behind every formula there is a specific person who answers for what ends up in a client's skin. You can read more about how this line is made on the about OVA page.
Frequently asked questions
Do mineral pigments last a shorter time?
They give lower saturation at the start, but that is not the same as shorter longevity. They fade more slowly and more evenly, so the work looks good for longer even though it was gentler from the beginning.
Will they work on lips?
They will, with the reservation that lips have their own undertone which tones down part of the colour. For lips artists more often choose mixtures with higher saturation, for example Gentle Drop Lips.
Can I mix Mineral Drop with other lines?
Technically yes. It is worth remembering that when you mix two mixtures, you also mix the rate at which they metabolise, and that is harder to predict than the colour right after the procedure.
I do not know which shade to start with
The simplest way is to take the SET 3x and test the whole palette on your own clients. If you prefer to pick a single bottle, write to us with the skin tones and the results you work with most often and we will help you choose.
If you want to understand the whole mechanism, we wrote a separate article about it: mineral pigments in permanent makeup. You will find the comparison with hybrids here: mineral or hybrid pigments.
